Andrea Kobayashi
Andrea Kobayashi was born in Tasmania in 1966 and grew up in Melbourne. She graduated from Melbourne University with an honours degree in Russian in 1992 and completed a Master of Arts with distinction (Visual and Performing Arts) from Charles Sturt University in 2002. In 2003 she moved permanently to Japan where she lives with her family. She exhibits regularly in Japan and in other countries.
Her practice covers three main projects: Landscape painting and drawing (both Australian and Japanese landscapes), The Armchair Antiquarian (contemporary interpretation of megalithic sites) and Karasu/Yatagarasu (three-legged crows and other birds). More of all of these can be found on her website.
Kobayashi is also a poet and in 2009 won second prize for haiku in English in the 35th Mainichi Daily News Haiku Contest.
