Kath Fries

I am interested in the motif of memory as it is represented in objects in the background of our everyday life. The use of found objects and familiar domestic materials in my work opens a juxtaposition of ideas about contemporary existence against a multitude of personal and social histories. By exploring elements of trace and residue my work addresses the interpenetration of realities; material and ephemeral. Repetition, trace, shadow and reflection are used to enhance, emphasise and capture a fleeting sense of temporality.
