Dave Hurn is a Carlisle based artist, and has just completed an MA in Contemporary Fine Art at the University of Cumbria (formerly Cumbria Institute of the Arts, formerly Cumbria College of Art and Design).

The recent focus of his work has been with the exploration of science, technology and the humanity of creation by developing an Idea Generating Machine. The machine has been designed to scan the users brain function and translate it into a text based idea for a work of art, be it either a machine, an object, a drawing, or a thought.

The text based ideas that are produced through using the machine are then taken on to be further explored, developed and designed into technical blueprints for the future construction of the idea. The blueprints are designed in a digital computer based format, before being printed using the original Cyanotype process.
