Wok The Rock
Wok The Rock was born in Madiun, East java, Indonesia in 1975. Studied Visual Communication Design at Indonesia Institute of the Art in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Founder of Ruang MES 56 ; alternative art space where he was involved in several exhibition projects and held his first solo exhibtion “For Me & You” in 2002. Producing Video Battle (a short video compilation) with Wimo Ambala Bayang. He was responsible in underground music movement by publishing “Bajingan” a streetpunk zine and running “Realino Records” a streetpunk record label in Yogyakarta. His artworks use various media; from photography, video, graphic design, music production to the internet in a deconstructive imagery, digital culture, and appropriate art concept using popular-cheap tools.
He was also participated in New Media Art Festival in Havana, Cuba (2004), a public art project “Let Arts Move You” in a commuter train, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and “Future Image: Asia-Europe Young Photographer Forum 2007” in Cork and Dublin, Ireland. Currently working as graphic designer in Ruang Laba to keep being alive and kicking while running Yes No Wave Music, a netlabel.
