Adriana Korkos

Media: Sculpture, Photography, Installation, Audio, Screen-based, Performance

Adriana KORKOS is Australian. She has been residing in Asia for over a decade. Her work cannot be confined to a single type of technique or format. A Sculptor, video and multimedia artist, performer and photographer, through her work Adriana has been examining and questioning the perception of freedom, pain, geographical location and ancestry in contrast with socio-political systems. Her work often reveals the uncomfortable truth via the poetic beauty of an object or a silent image. Korkos’s installations with fire, electricity, or medical instruments, turned into jewelry, open up a new possibility of how to perceive an old concept. Her examination of Chinese mythology juxtaposed with the reality of China’s one child policy and its resulting forced abortions, is a powerful and poignant topic. Her latest work continues her intriguing ways of dealing with the less obvious feelings related to memory, labyrinths, windows, mirrors, shadows, silence, whispers and fate.
