Elyss McCleary
Elyss McCleary is a Melbourne based artist, having recently completed a BFA in Drawing at RMIT University (2008).
Elyss’ practice is involved in the process of layering and mark making in her work, building unsystematic and considered techniques to create drawings, photographs, paintings and installations. The relationship between the figure, landscape and abstraction are binding themes within her work.
In the recent Chronicle show (2009) at the Library Artspace, Elyss explains her large scale drawings of The Parkscapes as a look at the light and the nocturnal luminosity of the world – a world we may desire whilst dreaming. The views are inventions taken from associations of landscape to create a sense of the momentary, familiar and embedded memories.
Elyss has participated in a number of shows and projects including the Adelaide Perry Prize for drawing (2009) the Brett Whitely Finalist Show (Highly Commended 2007) in Sydney and numerous solo and group exhibitions in Melbourne. She is currently preparing for an upcoming collaboration with five artists at The Projects gallery in Collingwood (July 2009).
