SOME WORDS ABOUT THE IMAGE …
Title:
5 Logos selected to be Imprinted onto a Set of Die Punches for a Single Tablet Press.
Statement:
In response to the exhibition ‘Trans’, the artist sought to obtain several parts of a tablet pressing machine. The machine in question is a small desktop type press used to compress different kinds of granular raw materials into round tablet forms.
The parts on display are a set of 5 die punches, each of which has been custom made with a different logo design. Various discussions took place over a 3 week period, which lead to the selection of the final 5 designs.
This machine runs on power but can also be operated manually. The filling depth of the materials and the thickness of the tablets are adjustable. This particular model can only hold one punch at any one time, however it has the capacity to produce 3600 pieces/units per hour. Prior to March 2010, such machines could be imported into Australia without restriction or control.
POSTSCRIPT TO TRANS …(AN EMAIL SENT TO THE CURATOR )
Hi Michael,
Just though I’d share something that i found a little amusing.
I had an email from a friend asking me about where i got my pill punches made up – i was a bit suspicious as her son is actually an officer of the law, that perhaps i was in danger of incriminating myself somehow…but anyhow, i was just looking up the manufacturer website for her, when i saw that an image of my punches was actually posted up as an example of their handiwork! I think this is the best response that i have ever had to a work/exhibition.
Kind Regards,
k
