Nicole Heinzel was born in 1969 in Bengasi, Libya to German parents. Heinzel has lived in Trinidad & Tobago and Scotland where she went to Duncan of Jordanstone School of Art in Scotland. After seven years in London, she moved to Berlin in 2003 where she currently lives and works as an artist.

Heinzel’s work takes a critical look at the line and questions the various ways of accessing reality.The multi-layered nature of the line and its way of expressing reality are examined through drawing, painting, photography and digital media. Heinzel’s approach resembles processes which occur in the brain. Perceptions are filtered, manipulated, de and re-constructed. The reduced range of colour and the minimalist language of form in her current works focus attention onto the essential.
