Nori Morcaide

Media: Painting

Nori Morcaide grew up in southern California and graduated at Cal State University Channel Islands. He draws inspiration from history, psychology and sociology.

“From a young age I understood that there were expectations of me from powerful shadowy forces. It was a river of currency, and in school we swam in flocks. Slightly fearless and against intimidation, I began to swim against the current while sprinkling pigments mixed in water to show where i’ve been.”

Nori’s art explores manifestations of the yings and yangs of social-sexual authority in a visual dichotomy of the helplessly cute and the powerful control freaks. His paintings depict connections in intimate and social-economic power exchanges between sovereigns and citizens (employees). Nori’s artwork probes the strange underground psycho-sexual occult world that exists in the hierarchy of social institutions. His imagery reflects a stream of human psycology and behavior, and the insidious habbit of viewing the world through rose colored glasses.
