Carolyn O'Neill
My name is Carolyn O’Neill and I am currently living In W.A. I have been painting for 6 years and paint in an abstract expressionist style.
Recent Tafe studies have both enhanced and reinforced this. I am currently completing Certificate VI in Visual Arts & Contemporary Craft.
The act of self expression inspires and motivates me. The ‘action’ or the physical and emotional outpouring of ones’ soul becomes a connective force. This rawness and transparent energy is what I attempt to convey onto canvas.
My work is generally unplanned; ti is spontaneous and intuitive. After adding texture and building up many layers of paint; it is then time to strip back the layers by sanding and scraping to reveal it’s true essence.
Removing excess in an attempt to achieve a sense of balance, harmony and significant negative space. Drips of paint meld into the layers of texture and form developing extra depth and dimension and dry brushing reinforces the top layers. Whilst a limited pallette challenges me to explore tonal variations within the work.
Abstract art is similiar to a piece of music in effect. A piece of music may not describe anything tangible or tell a story; yet it may stir emotions. Abstract paintings depend on colour and design to do the same.
Please feel free to contact me to discuss my art.
