Art Salon harnesses the power of live performances, screenings and installations to generate real conversations.

A salon-style evening showcasing the works, intricacies and motivations behind one of the most prominent figures of experimental film; Maya Deren.
The salon will screen two films by Deren with a focus on Meshes in the Afternoon, one of the most widely viewed and analysed of all experimental films.

Joining us will be Dr Wendy Haslem (University of Melbourne) and Dr Leon Marvell (Deakin University) who will discuss Maya Deren’s influence and impact on Avant Garde film making.
Erin Hutching and Jenine Kerr of Unicorn Productions will discuss their work in relation to the development and context of Deren and experimental film.

Alex London’s (Unicorn Productions) installation ‘Alex London Dies in Public’ will also be screened.

Presented by Amanda Beal.
