A creative, practical design competition for Primary, Secondary and Tertiary students was devised as part of the Gallery's THING beware the material world exhibition, which focuses on design. The students were given the opportunity to create their own unique chair, to rival those in the exhibition. Each category was given a specific brief to follow.
The aim was to encourage creativity, develop design skills and help students gain a better understanding of the function of aesthetics of materials.
The two most successful designs from each category will be displayed in the Art Gallery of Western Australia’s Concourse.
