Midsumma

Guildford Lane Gallery

Wednesday 20 January 2010 to Sunday 31 January 2010
Since 1988, the Midsumma Festival has been Victoria's premier gay and lesbian arts and cultural festival, presenting an annual community celebration and encouraging the development of innovative artistic content and a unique cultural experience.

Guildford Lane Gallery is delighted to welcome back Midsumma. This year, the festival brings a curated program to the gallery with Queer City Lane Dwellers, a showcase of work including visual arts as well as musical, spoken and dramatic performance.

Visitors can look forward to works such as Janice Appleton’s ‘There is something I need to tell you’, a re-invented bedroom telling the story of one of Australia’s few legally married same-sex couples. In ‘My Pop Life’, Michael Brady offers a diary reading exposing the thoughts and feelings of a pop-obsessed eighties teen, while Brad Gunn presents ‘Characters of the Jungle-Seed’, a sculpture series based on the surreal creatures of the original screenplay ‘Jungle-seed’. Also, in a much-anticipated series of performance, David Rogers-Smith will sing songs from his debut album, ‘In My Life’.
