Artexpress 2010
Hazelhurst Regional Gallery & Arts Centre
Hazelhurst will join with other venues across Sydney in hosting an exhibition that is always extremely popular with both the general public and thousands of school students, absorbing inspiration and making mental notes on ‘what gets in’ to ARTEXPRESS .
Hazelhurst adds another perspective to this exhibition with a focus on the art making process – the journey an artist takes when planning and producing an artwork, (including a few wrong turns along the way!). Such a view often reveals the artist’s intent or rationale which can be a pathway towards a greater understanding of the work. In the past, due to space limitations, not all of a student’s work has been exhibited. However, once again, Hazelhurst will endeavour to exhibit complete bodies of work of 56 exceptional students.
The Hazelhurst exhibition is strong in fresh ideas and reveals extraordinary technical skills by young artists from the Sutherland Shire and throughout NSW . A visitor to ARTEXPRESS at Hazelhurst will be rewarded by seeing the sheer diversity that young people have employed in depicting sophisticated ideas. Artworks range across a variety of media, convention and techniques, with interesting themes ranging from issues of political, social, cultural and spiritual significance through to aspects of personal identity and home environment.
Hazelhurst Regional Gallery & Arts Centre welcomes the teaching fraternity, students and the general public to an exhibition that highlights the skill and inventiveness that underpins this year’s choice of artworks.
To coincide with Artexpress, Hazelhurst will offer a series of workshops for current HSC Visual Arts students.
Hazelhurst will also be hosting an Artexpress forum on the evening of Wednesday 17 February.
