Contemporary Australian and International Art
Gallery 9 | Admission: Free
Art Gallery of South Australia
Friday 19 February 2010 to Sunday 01 January 2012
Recent acquisitions of Australian and international art. Some of the works included explore the representation of race: from African–American artist Kara Walker’s screenprint Emancipation Approximation scene #5, to British-born, Trinidad-based artist Chris Ofili, whose prints Black Kiss represent the Biblical story of Judas betraying Christ with a kiss in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Other works, such as the moving-image work by Daniel von Sturmer and a large-scale drawing by Mira Gojak explore both formal and psychological terrain. Gojak’s exploratory line poses and resolves formal problems through movement across a white ground.
Programs for this display include:
Free Floor Talk with artist Mira Gojak, Tuesday 23 February, 12.45pm
Free Floor Talk with curator Jane Messenger, Tuesday 9 March, 12.45pm
