Reflections of the Lotus: The Art of Thailand, Burma and Laos

Art Gallery of South Australia

Friday 21 May 2010 to Sunday 04 July 2010
Reflections of the Lotus presents an opportunity for Art Gallery visitors to become acquainted with rare masterpieces of art from Thailand, Burma, Cambodia and Laos.

The title of the exhibition refers to the lotus, the water flower which is the central symbol of Buddhism in Southeast Asia. The exhibition features life-size Buddha images, textiles, ceramics, bronze and lacquer ware from the Art Gallery’s own extensive collection, as well as from Australian private collections.

A highlight of Reflections of the Lotus is the Art Gallery’s own internationally recognised collection of Thai ceramics. A representative selection of the Thai ceramics will subsequently tour to interstate galleries at the conclusion of the Adelaide exhibition.
