Dorota Mytych is an accomplished contemporary Australian artist who grew up in communist Poland in the 1980s. In this latest body of work Mytych has made a departure from her exact drawing application for which she has become well established, in order to embrace elements of chance and surprise in her work.
Mytych maintains her drive to further investigate issues of war and hardship of which she and generations before her were exposed. However, it is now the process of making the work which acts as stimulus for though. Mytych has widened her sphere of influence to include the usage of everyday objects. In doing so she is adding layers and further developing her ongoing discussion.
Dorota Mytych has experienced well-earned success in acquiring numerous international accolades, in the form of prizes and residencies, whilst maintaining a consistent presence in solo and group shows in Australia and internationally. Some of these include; The Trustees Artist’s Flat Chretzeturm Fellowship, Stein am Rhein, Switzerland, 2009. Roswell Artist in Residency, Roswell, NM USA , 2009. Bogliasco Fellowship, The Liguria Study Center for the Arts and Humanities, Italy 2009.
