The Kenneth Jack Memorial Award Exhibition and Watercolour Festival 2010

Tuesday 01 June 2010 to Monday 14 June 2010
Opening Tuesday 01 June 2010 6.30pm
The Watercolour Society of Australia and The Jack Family present The Kenneth Jack Memorial Award Exhibition and Watercolour Festival 2010. The Watercolour Exhibition at Montsalvat will display the work of many of Australia’s leading watercolour artists, and celebrates the illustrious career of one of Australia’s foremost artists, the late Kenneth Jack 1926 – 2006.

Enthusiasm for the oldest form of Art – Watercolour Painting – is enjoying a resurgence. Mixing pigment, glue and water to produce eye-catching and symbolic images has a history spanning thousands of years. Painting on rough rock, smooth skin, flattened papyrus and treated calf-skin progressed to the advent of the quality papers of the nineteenth century when W.M. Turner, Cozens, De Wint, Cottman and Constable became the legends they are today.

Historic Montsalvat in rural Eltham Victoria is the scene for a major Watercolour Exhibition by the Watercolour Society of Australia, opening on Tuesday 1st June 2010. It follows the extensive Melbourne Watercolour Show at Glen Eira Gallery in March, the International Shanghai Zhu Jia Jiao Watercolour Exhibition at the same time in China, and the three Watercolour Exhibitions at Gosford Regional Gallery, Wagner Art Gallery Sydney and Wollongong City Gallery promoted by the Australian Watercolour Institute earlier this year.

The Watercolour Exhibition at Montsalvat will display the work of many of Australia’s leading watercolour artists, and celebrates the illustrious career of one of Australia’s foremost artists, the late Kenneth Jack 1926 – 2006. This exhibition is running parallel to the regional exhibition “The Kenneth Jack View” at the Bundoora Homestead Gallery, Bundoora, until the 6th June.
