Kino Loves Object
Object Gallery
Kino is a monthly event that has taken place in Sydney since November 2006. Participants make films specifically for Kino then present the work to a sold-out audience. Each film is therefore a world premiere! The event includes music, giveaways, an open bar and organic pizza.
Like an open-mic night for filmmakers, everyone is encouraged to participate and given the means to do so, effectively blurring the boundaries between filmmakers and film watchers. Kino Sydney is a non-competitive, inclusive and accessible series of events that attracts close to 3,000 participants each year.
Kino Sydney is part of an international network born in Montréal in 1999. It is now a global movement, with cells in Canada, the US, France, Germany, the UK, South Africa and now Australia.
Here are three challenges for you, the filmmakers:
CHALLENGE 1 : MINI-DOC PORTRAITS
Create a 3-5 minute video portrait of a favourite local artist, architect or designer (in the form of an interview, a-day-in-the-life, a time-lapse charting the creation of a piece, etc).
CHALLENGE 2 : MOTION + DESIGN
Create a video under 5 minutes exploring the intersection between design and moving image (motion graphics, architectural modelling, 3D visualization, animation, light-graphics etc).
CHALLENGE 3 : TYPOGRAPHY
Pick one letter in the alphabet (and a corresponding word), then use typography and motion to illustrate that word. The end result will be one crowdsourced film made up of 26×10 second segments by 26 different filmmakers.
