Perceptions - Vesna Maksimovic & Jade Zivanovic

Steps Gallery

Saturday 14 August 2010 to Wednesday 25 August 2010
Opening Saturday 14 August 2010 6pm - 8pm
Perceptions is an exhibition of how two artists, Vesna Maksimovic & Jade Zivanovic interpret the world, be that of a facade or a naive reality.

Vesna’s work shows mannequins as an impersonation of life. Her high contrast backgrounds imply her subjects superimposed and displaced. Superficial richness of their exterior clothing only amplifies their oblivious existence within their surreal environment.

Jade seeks to present the beauty in the darkness, showing light where perhaps many would perceive there is none. She encourages you to look beyond the face you show the world, to the child within who’s perception of the world might cause a brighter light to shine.

Guest Artist, photographer Lana Dawn, uses her choice of media to show the contrasts between the male and female spirit. Her C-type images produce a series that conveys the warmth and beauty of several women artists. Displayed alongside this series will be a triptych of black and white images that depict the too often closed and sheltered male spirit. Her aim is to portray the different sorts of beauty in each individual.
