Although these works emulate typical Tasmanian landscapes, they are not necessarily ‘locality specific’ but rather, are landscapes that have a broader narrative… places we can simply be, reflect on how we are actually a part of the land itself, and feel the “stories” of these places both human and otherwise.

I have also included several smaller still lifes and interiors, many containing mementos of the landscapes I have grown familiar with. They record the lingering effects of those experiences in my day to day life, working back in my garden studio south of Hobart, as in for example, “Rhubarb Flower with Shells”. The abalone shell reminds me of the river, transformed by the twilight into a ribbon of mother of pearl, returning to the sea at low tide; the inspiration behind the large landscape “Estuary”. As such, still life and landscape are connected; both celebrate light and the forms it describes.
