The civic architecture of Russell and Yelland

Russell & Yelland Architects is a South Australian firm established in 1939 by Charles Alexander (Alec) Russell and Keith Mills Yelland. It has a long history of working in metropolitan and country South Australia and on projects across a range of sectors. While its repertoire includes residential, educational, commercial and industrial buildings it also accepted commissions for community buildings in civic spaces. The exhibition would focus on the last aspect of the firm’s work. The Architecture Museum holds a substantial collection of several hundred drawings created by Russell and Yelland from its formation through to the 1980s and the firm has retained a considerable a range of archival materials including correspondence, photographs and newspaper cuttings. The Museum also contains numerous items that would help to contextualise the exhibition’s proposed focus.
