Visible / Invisible

Flinders Lane Gallery

Tuesday 05 April 2011 to Saturday 23 April 2011
Opening Thursday 07 April 2011 5.30 - 7.30pm
Visible/Invisible enters the space between the seen and the unseen, the conscious and the unconscious. In accessing the space where the seen and unseen merge, Visible/Invisible tests and explores boundaries on a visual, spatial, and material level.

Group Exhibition featuring works by Michelle Dawson : Christine Willcocks : Jackie Cavallaro : Claire Bridge : Jon Eiseman : Mami Yamanaka : Peter James Smith : Lizzie Buckmaster Dove : Caroline Rannersberger

This exhibition attempts to highlight the infinite layers of veils that we all see through in engaging with ‘reality’. The everyday meets with the fantastic, the wondrous and the strange. In this arena of half light, memories, myths, and dreams intermingle with the visible world.

What the eye sees in this space, from the infinite possibilities in every view, functions as a mirror on the self. Everything we see is viewed through our own personal layers of dreams, experiences, & beliefs. Through examining the gaze, and what it seeks, the
imaginings that overlay the material substance of our visible world become clearer. What rises to meet us in the half light? Can we find, as Descartes proposed, a limit to our imagination, and therefore our world?
