Jan Ja - Wet Season Storms

It was the main hunting and fishing place for the Karrwa and Yanyula people. The Karrwa / Yanyula people used to travel up and down this country.

The day begins with the “Jurlayarriyarri”, Morning Glory. Dark clouds but no rain. Animals flying with it. Birds coming from the island to the mainland. Then comes “Kindilkurrinyi” – it’s the First Storm that you see in the long distance when rain is starting to develop. Bad lightning in that first storm…good time for hunting…no dreaming.

“Kakajangu” is Rainbow Dreaming. Came through this country – early wet season and big wind. Then “Janja” – second storm. “Mijiwaru” is the Wet Season. That rain all night and all day. Five weeks or one month it rains without stopping – Big Big wet season. Yanyuwa and Gawawa mixed.
