Ben Sheers - Drift
Catherine Asquith Gallery
The creation of the work involves a synthesis of various sources of information such as on site photography, plein air painting and studio based still life painting. All these sources are then drawn upon and combined in the studio to create the final studio based work.
The current body of work utilises the land and seascapes of the Mornington peninsula and combines this ever changing landscape with a combination of various objects that to me, possess a quality of monumentality and an element of visual poetry.”
Ben Sheers is an Australian contemporary artist based on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, a locale from which he sources much of his inspiration, for his paintings.
Sheers works predominately in the medium of oils. All works are created using a traditional technique of under painting and glazing and complimented with a process of acute observational drawing and constant refinement.
Sheers has an extensive exhibition history with a number of solo exhibitions, numerous group exhibitions as well as being a three time finalist in prestigious art prizes such as the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship. His works are held in numerous private collections both in Melbourne and Sydney as well as overseas.
