November 5 –20 'By pondering the kingdom of animals we can observe our own true nature. I would like to thank my roosters, my friends the deer of Nara and some old goats, bulls and dogs I have met along the way for being such wonderful models.'

The natural form of an organic structure is mesmerising for many artists. Henry Moore kept an elephant skull in his studio and Picasso and Chagall regularly used the goat in their work. In many world mythologies, animals are used as symbols or talismans to help us humans make sense of the world around us; the world inside us and the world beyond us. Kaye Freeman explores the Kingdom of animals through a variety of mediums, capturing the balance of darkness and light, cruelty and fragility of the natural world. We are not as separate from them as we might like to think we are. Being creatures all of us, from the ether and in the end returning to the earth. Kaye’s intention is that her images convey some of the sense of the mystery of the Kingdom of animals and life, its power, serenity and connectedness of us all.
Kaye combines shellac varnish for painting with a variety of drawing mediums, telling intriguing stories of existence.

This year Kaye Freeman was selected as a finalist in,
The Adelaide Perry Drawing Prize, Sydney
She Prize, Walker street Gallery, Mebourne
Mount Eyer Prize David Rex Livingston Gallery Sydney
