Marco Fusinato: There is no Authority
Anna Schwartz Gallery - Sydney
The single work re-contextualises the vocabulary of early Anarchist Punk movements, emphasising ideas of control and choice. Specifically inspired by the anarchist-pacifism of the punk group Crass, and their beginnings at the still-controversial squat Dial House, THERE IS NO AUTHORITY questions the power of community. Neither nostalgic nor cynical, his work simply explores the propaganda of the punk movement. Born in Melbourne to Italian parents in 1968, he still has close ties with his ancestral Italian family based north of Venice. Fusinato has had major features in both Art and Australia and Art Forum in the past year. He has recently been commissioned to present new work at the 2012 Adelaide Biennale and will present a solo exhibition at Artspace, Sydney in 2012.
