A major collection of children's picture book illustrations will be on display as this year's Xstrata Children's Exhibition. Hooked on Books: Australian Children's Picture Book Illustrations from the collection of Albert Ullin showcases leading contemporary illustrators from the past 40 years. Ullin was the founding owner of Melbourne's specialist children's bookshop Little Bookroom.
Perc Tucker Regional Gallery will be transformed into a kids’ wonderland with the annual children’s exhibition coinciding with the start of the school holidays on Saturday 20 September and running until 16 November.
Hooked on Books, Xstrata Children’s exhibition, is likely to hook all visitors. Based around a unique collection of Australian Children’s book illustrations, Hooked on Books features images from more than 90 original works. The list includes well-known children’s authors May Gibbs, Leigh Hobbs, Alison Lester, Graeme Base and Julie Vivas from the collection of Albert Ullin, founding owner of The Little Bookroom children’s bookshop in Melbourne.
The exhibition designed for children 3 – 13 years features two reading areas complete with cushions, where children can relax with books, one area featuring original fabric images created by local artist and author Denise Vanderlugt.
