Hannah Pang brings to the RMIT Gallery dreams from loom and needle, an opportunity to experience contemporary fabrics and designs using the ancient Chinese silk weaving technique of Kesi or cut silk.
Hannah Pang has always been an innovator and her work with leather in Hong Kong in the “70s and “80s selling attracted the eye of designers including Gianni Versace and Issey Miyake. She lives between Australia and the centre for Kesi, Suzhou in China, where it has been woven since the Hang Dynasty ( 206BC – 220AD). Dreams from loom and needle also includes fine examples of fabric and garments using Shibori and Chinese embroidery.
