Nieves Fernandez Gallery
Nieves Fernandez opened her first gallery in 1976 under the name of Yerba, in Murcia (Spain), with an exhibition of graphic works by Antoni Tapies. In 1988 the gallery was moved to Madrid, where it resides now.
During these years, the gallery has worked with very well known artists such as Antoni Tapies, Eduardo Chillida, Equipo Cronica, Allen Jones, Pablo Picasso, David Hockney, Joan Miro, Pablo Palazuelo, Julio Gonzaez, Josep Renau, Wilfredo Lam, Hernandez Pijuan, Nicola de Maria, Richard Serra, and Arnulf Rainer. And also with many young artists that are exhibiting at the gallery for their first time like Maria Carretero, Rafael Grassi, Sean Mackaoui or Alfredo Santos.
The gallery has also done thematic exhibitions of books and toys made by artists or Cuban cinema.
Nieves Fernandez Gallery keeps working with masters of Contemporary and Modern art, as well as with young artists, giving them the opportunity to exhibit in fairs like Art Cologne, Art Chicago, and to start to build a strong career in and out of Spain.
This gives young people the opportunity to start buying affordable art as well.
During this 28 years, the gallery has published catalogues and book of art and architecture like the collection Arquilectura with texts by Piet Mondrian, Tapies, La Corbusier, Paul Valery, Theo van Doesburg, Albert Gleizes or Metzinger.
It has also edited prints of many artists, and limited editions of books made by important writers and artists, like the collection Funeral Mal, written by J. Migual Ullan, and illustrated with etchings by artists such as Antoni Tapies, Eduardo Chillida, Pablo Palazuelo, Antonio Saura or Vicente Rojo, or “Visitas de 1 a 12” with texts by Juan Benet and silkscreens by Frederic Amat.
Nieves Fernandez has collaborated with museums and institutions lending important pieces, and curated exhibitions in important museums and institutions. She has worked as an advisor of collections like the Telefonica Collection, the Chase Manhatten Bank, the collection of the Spanish Senate or the collection of Contemporary art of the Museum of Caceres.
