Scaramouche
Scaramouche opened its doors on February 28, 2009 with the group exhibition, “The Practice of Joy Before Death; It just would not be a party without you,” which brought together an eclectic and exciting group of emerging and established artists living and working in the New York area. In his review of the show for the New York Times, Holland Cotter called the installation “ingenious” with all “the essential ingredients for a good art party.”
While committed to the promotion of artists living and working in the New York area, it is Scaramouche’s mission to introduce artists from around the globe, both established and emerging – often presenting them in their first solo exhibitions in the U.S.
From performances destabilizing identity to installations that challenge modernist tropes, the gallery works with a wide variety of media and never shies from the bold or provocative.
