Dubbo Regional Gallery - The Armati Bequest
Dubbo Regional Gallery features 706m² of exhibition space incorporating four galleries and a space devoted to the moving image. The main space is devoted to large touring and in-house curated exhibitions, a Project Space for smaller touring exhibitions and solo shows, the Regional Art Space devoted to regional artists and a permanent Children’s Gallery. In 2007 the Gallery was the beneficiary of a generous gift from the Armati Family including Michael Riley’s celebrated Cloud series of photographs. In perpetuity the Gallery will hitherto be known as Dubbo Regional Gallery – The Armati Bequest.
Dubbo Regional Gallery (DRG) was established in 1989 after many years of lobbying and planning by the Dubbo community. Housed in refurbished buildings in Darling Street Dubbo, DRG soon grew to become an integral part of the region through its innovative exhibitions, collection, education and outreach programs. The Gallery’s collection features works acquired from Dubbo Art & Craft Society Biennial exhibitions, generous donations and bequests, and active collecting. The Gallery specialises in the Animal in Art theme, collecting works in a broad range of media and styles by artists from all areas. The collection includes work by artists such as Arthur Boyd, John Olsen, David Noonan, Louise Weaver, Heather B Swann, Peggy Napangardi Jones and George W. Lambert.
