HISTORIC HOME & SCULPTURE GARDEN IN TIMARU . Aigantighe (pronounced ‘egg and tie’) means ‘at home’ in Scottish Gaelic. Founded as a public art museum in 1956, it holds the South Island’s third largest public art collection dating from the Sixteenth Century to the present day. Aigantighe shows regional, national and international exhibitions. A sculpture garden with works by New Zealand, Japanese and African artists is always open. An innovative school holiday programme includes art hunts, Arty the Art Car and historic painting dress-ups (a New Zealand museum first).
