A HANUKKAH PROJECT: DANIEL LIBESKIND’S LINE OF FIRE
The Jewish Museum
Shulie (1997) is a shot-by-shot remake of an obscure documentary about '60s feminist Shulamith Firestone. Author of the treatise The Dialectic of Sex: The Case for Feminist Revolution, Firestone was a student at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1967 when four male directors selected her as a subject for a film about the so-called Now Generation.
SHULIE: A FILM BY ELISABETH SUBRIN
The Jewish Museum
This exhibition explores the origins and impact of feminism on contemporary painting from the 1960s to now. Eva Hesse, Joan Snyder, Deborah Kass, and many other artists forged new avenues for painting by expanding its subjects and inventing new techniques in abstraction, collage, and realism.
Shifting the Gaze: Painting and Feminism
The Jewish Museum
Matthew Radune, Heather Dewey-Hagborg, and Thomas Dexter present OPEN CIRCUIT, an interactive sonic architecture that transforms tools of surveillance into instruments of creative play. Exploring themes of institutional control and creative freedom, the visitors’ movement within the space triggers audio sensors that generate original, accumulative sound.
