Recent acquisitions of Australian and international art. Some of the works included explore the representation of race: from African–American artist Kara Walker’s screenprint Emancipation Approximation scene #5, to British-born, Trinidad-based artist Chris Ofili, whose prints Black Kiss represent the Biblical story of Judas betraying Christ with a kiss in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Doreen Reid Nakamarra was an extremely talented artist and a highly regarded ambassador for the Pintupi people. This display pays tribute to her and the other Pintupi women artists who are gaining worldwide recognition for their unique and sophisticated style of painting.

This display pays tribute to the beauty and artistry of the book, presenting works that are vital to its historical development. From early austere woodcut illustrations of the northern Renaissance to elaborate plates produced by artists in private presses of the early twentieth century, the works comprise three kinds of book-related artwork: illustration, bookplates and artists’ books.
